Abstract

The paper discusses the problem of forming a consensus target hypothesis as the foundation for successful collaboration in large scientific teams. Collaboration is viewed as a “system of systems”, where each discipline operates within its own private semantic space. It is shown that common technical integration solutions address data access issues but fail to bridge the semantic and methodological gaps between disciplines, thus hindering the development of a shared understanding of the goal and the means to achieve it. The formation of a consensus target hypothesis is justified as an independent complex task of system analysis, requiring the development of specialized models and algorithms for intelligent decision support. These should be oriented towards semantic integration and facilitation of cognitive processes in distributed research teams.
