Integration of intelligent smart home systems to improve their reliability and sustainability
Abstract
The rapid development of the Internet of Things technology has transformed smart home systems by leveraging flexible automation and user experience. However, standalone intelligent systems often suffer from point failures and limited sensor accuracy, which reduces their reliability. This paper explores the feasibility of using the integration of intelligent lighting and security subsystems implemented using IoT technology to improve the reliability and accuracy of the system by combining sensor information. The performance of standalone and integrated subsystems of a smart home prototype is evaluated in the AnyLogic simulation environment. The simulation results show that integration can improve the event detection accuracy to 99% compared to 94% and 87% for standalone lighting and security systems, respectively. Integration mitigates failures of individual subsystems, improves decision-making accuracy, and introduces additional features such as automatic lighting to deter intruders. The conducted research confirms the potential of integrated IoT systems to improve the reliability and expand the functionality of smart home systems.
